  • 1848 – Country dance at Brookfield. Grove and Wash got a crowd of hop-pickers together and drove over. They entered the ballroom without tickets, insisting on dancing, and wound up in a bloody fight. Wash was indicted for an assault with intent to kill. As a result, Wash skips bail and leaves for California.
